Borussia Dortmund was on a difficult mission when they met Barcelona on the fifth matchday of the Champions League group phase. Dortmund lost one of its best attackers, Paco Alcacer.
Barcelona vs Dortmund match was held on Thursday (11/28/2019) early morning hrs at Camp Nou. Both teams are now competing to advance to the last 16. Their position in the standings is not safe at all.
Dortmund is second in Group F with seven points. Only one point adrift of Barcelona. But, Dortmund is also threatened by Inter Milan, who are third, with four points.
Dortmund needs a victory to seal a place in the last 16. But, winning over Barcelona at Camp Nou is not easy. So, what is the plan prepared by coach Lucien Favre?
Dortmund Will Survive Well
Lucien Favre certainly realizes that Barcelona is not an opponent that can be dealt with by an ordinary approach. Barcelona is a tough opponent and choosing to play defense is not prohibited.
“If you play against Barcelona, it will be very difficult. We are very excited to play this game. We want to play well,” said Lucien Favre quoted from Marca.
“We have to defend well and play forward with courage and intelligence. In the first game, we played very well and had many opportunities,” continued the 62-year coach.
At the first encounter at Signal Induna Park, Dortmund performed very well. Marco Reus and colleagues get lots of opportunities. Only, they are not able to convert them into goals. The match ended 0-0.
Without Paco Alcacer
Dortmund is not in its best performance. In the last two games, Dortmund has never won. They lost with the score 4-0 to Bayern Munich. Besides, Dortmund is also without Paco Alcacer.
“Unfortunately, [Alcacer] has not been able to come [to Barcelona]. He suffered a knee injury and was left at home. At the start of the season, he played very well and scored a lot of goals. He was effective in front of goal,” said Lucien Favre.
Paco Alcacer has been a mainstay for Dortmund to score goals. Also, the 26-year-old has played for Barcelona. Alcacer should be able to be a key player in the Barcelona vs Dortmund duel.
